In 2004, while exploring the limits and potential of (photographic) images, I transformed for the first time a room inhabited by my family and myself.

My intention was to highlight the “alien”, the “subversive”; the room became a model. I took more and more shots, and the dialogue between visual and artistic became increasingly abstract. Furniture and everyday items (metaphors of living) disappeared, as more fragile, improvised installations made of raw, distorted materials – many of which I made myself – entered the picture.

That which is alien has detached itself from everything that was concrete in this place, from the imagination, daydream and narrative, and has become inscrutable and intangible. What remains are the elementary issues: darkness and light, dissolution and form as the picture’s foundation – a curtain screening the abyss.
